Guiding How-Might-We Question
How might we build a holistic learning experience integrating interactive play to foster math, ELA, and science skills for young learners?
Project Design Journey
Milestone 1: Concept Testing
-
I designed and proposed a gamified experience with fantastical lands and relatable characters that go on "learning quests" and use the power of math to save the day.
-
These learning quests included video lessons, games, quizzes, and other interactive tasks.
-
A reward loop tied the quests together encouraging replayability.

Milestone 2: Narrative Design
I led the conception of the BYJU'S IP—a diverse and inclusive set of worlds and characters with an emphasis on racial, ethnic, and gender minorities as primary characters—to write engaging narratives for the learning videos with my team.

Milestone 3: Curriculum Design
-
After research and consultation with early learning and curriculum experts, I designed the math curriculum aligned to CCSS.
-
I consulted as a reviewer on the development of ELA and science curricula, aligned to CCSS and NGSS respectively.

Milestone 4: Process Definition and Milestone 5: Script Writing
-
Built and mentored a team of 75 narrative and game writers.
-
Created and implemented all narrative and writing processes for 3D-animated video episodes and learning games.
-
Together with my team, I scripted, reviewed, and supervised the production of over 1500 math, ELA, and science learning videos.
-
Led research efforts such as A/B tests for video experiences to answer user experience questions about engagement such as:
-
What is the average attention span for G1, 2, and 3 users?
-
What is the ideal amount of text on-screen for users?
-
Which narrative worlds keep users engaged from beginning to end?
-
Which videos have the highest drop-off rates?

Milestone 6: On-set Script Coordination and Video Production
-
Wrote, improvised, and coordinated scripts on-set; assisted the director, and supervised outdoor filming of learning video episodes with guest stars.

Milestone 7: Game Writing
-
Guided and led learning design for games, reviewed game writing, and oversaw the production of over 1000 games for learning in collaboration with Disney, using Disney worlds and characters.

Milestone 8: "Phygital" Experience Design
-
Conducted concept testing for Osmo-integrated "phygital" worksheets for learning, set in Disney worlds and oversaw learning design for the production of interactive workbooks.
-
Conducted playtests for the phygital worksheets experience for PK-KG to iterate on design and answer questions such as:
-
Which templates worked for 4-year-olds vs 5-year-olds?
-
Was there a significant change in dexterity from 4 to 5 years?
-
What were the pain points?
